John Turner
American tenor John Turner has appeared in over forty opera and operetta productions with many local opera companies. His appearance as Achilles in our La Belle Helene marks his fourth show with VLOC. In October of 2010 he appeared as Vicomte Cascada in the Washington Camerata Production of Lehar’s The Merry Widow at the Austrian Embassy. This past July he sang the role of Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro with Maryland Opera Society, and in June he appeared as Prunier in the Riverbend Opera Company production of Puccini’s La Rondine. He has also sung the roles of Ottavio in Don Giovani, Don Curzio in Le Nozze, Léon in Signor Deluso, First Man in Maurice Saylor's Express-A Bus Ride, Alexis (The Sorcerer) in the VLOC ‘03 and ‘08 G&S Sing Out festivals and other G&S roles in various G&S QWERTs. John has appeared in supporting roles as Gastone in la Traviata, Parpignol and Sergeant in La bohème, Usher in Rigoletto, Notario in La Sonnumbula, Marcelo in Vives’ zarzuela Bohemios, Vendador and Colonel in Luisa Fernanda, Lope in El barberillo de Lavapies, El Rata and Sargento in La Gran Via, and many others. In 2011 he will also appear as Nick the bartender in Puccini’s La fanciulla del West and in the roles of Spalanzani and Frantz in Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffman. As an oratorio soloist he has sung Mozart's Requiem, Faure's Requiem, and Messiah. A performance member of the Washington’s Friday Morning Music Club, he will perform Vaughn Williams song cycle “On Wenlock Edge” at Strathmore this season. He has also performed with The In Series, Bel Cantanti Opera, Summer Opera Theater Company, Zarzuela DiSi, Opera Bel Canto, Southwest Chamber Players, and others.
