Set against the political upheaval of 1660 Derbyshire, this concert production of Sullivan’s rarely performed Haddon Hall unfolds as a rehearsal within the historic estate itself, weaving together romance, history, and intrigue. At its heart is Dorothy Vernon, who risks everything for love in a world shaped by shifting allegiances, social expectations, and the performance of power. Featuring Sullivan’s charming and spirited score, Haddon Hall offers an evening of wit, warmth, and surprising relevance—a reminder that politics has always been a kind of theater.

Set in Paris at the turn of the twentieth century, the plot centers on a young woman of great wealth who has recently been widowed. Her fictional homeland, the struggling principality of Pontevedro, faces near financial ruin and desperately needs her vast fortune to remain within its borders — which means she must marry a fellow Pontevedrian.

To steer her toward a suitable match, the country's ambassador turns to Count Danilo Danilovitch, a charming nobleman with a roving eye who also happens to be the widow Hanna Glawari's former love. The catch: Danilo is reluctant to confess his feelings, worried she might mistake genuine affection for a scheme to get at her money. This mutual hesitation sets off a lively chain of romantic misunderstandings, playful flirtations, and comedic entanglements.

Pirates of Penzance
June 11 - 20, 2026
F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre

Rockville, MD 20851
Gilbert & Sullivan's delightfully chaotic comic opera brimming with lovesick pirates, bumbling officers of the law, wild escapades, and wonderfully absurd twists of logic.

At its heart is Frederic, a young man serving as a pirate's apprentice, who finds himself completely smitten with Mabel, daughter of the pompous Major-General Stanley. He eagerly awaits the end of his apprenticeship on his 21st birthday — only to discover a rather unfortunate complication: having been born on February 29th, he technically has far fewer birthdays to his name than his age would suggest, leaving him bound to his duties far longer than expected. Torn between his overwhelming love for Mabel and his rigid sense of obligation, Frederic must somehow navigate his way toward a happy ending.

A timeless classic, The Pirates of Penzance takes audiences on a wonderfully entertaining ride full of charm, humor, and romantic longing.
