Do I have to pay when I submit my registration?

Everyone who registers must remit payment at the time of registration in order to be considered for casting. The only exception to this are accompanists, who are are comped in exchange for playing at least one show, and children (age 12 & under). Registrations (with payment) for those interested in principal roles are due June 18, 2018.  Registration for those only interested in singing with the chorus will remain open until the weekend of the Sing Out.

How is the Sing Out cast? When will I find out if I got the role I wanted?

The Sing Out is cast by a committee of Victorian Lyric Opera Company members, who will do their best to try to cast the roles with registrants' preferences in mind. It is possible that due to a high-volume of registrants in certain voice parts, and the popularity of certain roles, that not everyone will be given a principal role.

We are offering the opportunity to register as a "Lord High Substitute" in the case roles suddenly become available due to cancellation or illness.

Can I bring my kids?

Kids are always welcome at VLOC! Part of our mission as a company is to educate young people about Victorian-era operetta. Children 12 & under can attend with their parents without registering them individually (just drop us a line at victorianlyricopera@gmail.com to let us know you're bringing them along).  For middle school/high school/college aged students, please register them using the student registration rate.

So how does this all work?

Arrival:  We will be open for registration at 5:30pm on Friday.  Come in, pick up your registration packet, which will include a name tag, program, attendee list and some goodies  Enjoy a glass of bubbly, beer, or soft drink and some nibbles whilst getting to know your fellow G&S fans.

Getting started: The official opening begins with a rousing rendition of "Hail Poetry", and then we're off!

Logistics:  We will have seated risers on stage for the chorus. Principals will have chairs and music stands at the front of the stage.  You are welcome to come and go. If you don't want to sing a show you are welcome to sit in the audience or wander around the building or the park.

Breaks: There will be breaks. Expect a short stretch at the act break of each show, and 10-15 minutes between shows while we reset. On Saturday, there will be a lunch break of an hour or so, commencing after Pinafore until 1:30pm. We will have an approximate two-hour break for dinner after Ruddigore, coming back for The Grand Duke at 7:00pm.

Rehearsals:  There really aren't any! We encourage each cast of principals/conductors/accompanists to get together sometime before they perform, ideally during the show before, to talk through anything that may be tricky, tempos, and perhaps run some spots. Please remember the conductors and accompanists are there to enjoy the event, too. Don't expect a full run-though of the show.

Attire: Many attendees will use this as an opportunity to show off their many show t-shirts. T-shirts, jeans, shorts, skirts, dresses, anything goes. The order of the day is to be comfortable. Please note that the temperature of the theatre can fluctuate greatly, so plan accordingly. If you want to wear a costume for a show, we'd love it!  But it's not necessary.

The Grand Duke: While VLOC is presenting The Grand Duke, everyone is welcome to join the chorus. We will be doing a semblance of costume. We will have the center section of the risers blocked off for the VLOC chorus. The stage will also be more crowded as we will be joined by our orchestra.

Scores: We encourage participants to bring their own scores, or make a friend at the Sing Out to share with.

Lobby:  In the lobby we will have snacks and soft drinks available for sale throughout the day as well as free coffee & tea.
