Paid and Volunteer Opportunities

Artistic Director - Volunteer

VLOC is seeking an experienced individual to help shape the company's artistic direction in the coming years. Please read the description below.
To apply, please e-mail a copy of your resume and a statement outlining your vision for the
company to victorianlyricopera@gmail.com, subject Artistic Director. The position will remain open until filled.

Production Staff - Paid

Victorian Lyric Opera Company welcomes submissions from stage directors, designers (set, costume, props, make-up), and stage managers for any season. VLOC is seeking diverse candidates to fill these roles in the coming seasons.

Directors - VLOC has a five year plan of repertoire and hires stage directors for each production. If interested, please write to victorianlyricopera@gmail.com to be included on the seasonal Director Solicitation (usually sent December/January for the following season offerings). Stage directors should prepare a one to two page treatment of a production to present to the VLOC Artistic Director and members of the Board Artistic Committee. This position is paid. Supported by a producer and design team assembled by VLOC (unless you come with people you like to work with!).

Assistant Directors - VLOC actively employs Assistant Directors for each fully staged production. ADs are included in the planning and execution of any show, expected to attend most rehearsals and all of tech week. At VLOC this is treated as a training position to become considered for future stage directing candidacy.

Designers - Lighting, costume, set, and props designers are paid positions at VLOC. Paid positions with variable time commitment. VLOC has a full costume and prop collection from which to source materials for costume and props designers. We also have a storage bay/construction space with building material and tools. To be considered, please send interest and portfolio to victorianlyricopera@gmail.com.

Stage Managers - One for each show. Paid position. Looking for organized, detail oriented types. Expected to work from directly after a production is cast until strike of show. Fully staged productions are approximately a three month rehearsal period with rehearsals three to four times a week (non-business hours). To be considered, please write to victorianlyricopera@gmail.com with resume and two references.

Choreographers - Depending on the production, VLOC does hire choreographers. Experience in various styles of dance - from ballet to contra dancing - is preferred.
To be on our list, please write to victorianlyricopera@gmail.com and include resume.

Board Membership - Volunteer

The Board of Directors is responsible for establishing and executing the VLOC strategic plan, which is reviewed and adjusted biannually, and evaluated for progress and results.

According to the VLOC by-laws, the membership of VLOC elects members of the Board of Directors for each fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) and the Board subsequently elects the executive leadership (President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary).

Board members serve a one-year term. Meetings are held the second Sunday evening of each month, 7-8:30pm.

All members of the board lead or serve on various standing committees. All committees are overseen by the Executive Committee, comprised of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. As committee members, the Board is responsible for the day-to-day management of the organization. Please see the document below for a complete committee listing.
