Music Direction by Joseph Sorge The rich but witless Alexis is recently betrothed to the beautiful Aline. After having a vision, he plots to bring the joy of marriage to the entire town at his wedding ceremony. Alexis calls in the old family sorcerer, Jonathan Wellington Wells to concoct the perfect love potion. Naturally, this backfires and hilarity ensues.
The Sorcerer will be presented in conjunction with The 7th Great Gilbert and Sullivan Sing Out. Those participating in the Sing Out do not need to purchase a ticket to this performance. Entry is included with your registration fee. Presented in semi-staged concert format with full orchestra. |

Victorian Lyric Opera Company will kick off its 45th Anniversary by giving Gilbert & Sullivan fans the opportunity to experience and sing through the complete musical scores of all thirteen of the intact operettas.
The Sing-Out honors the immortal operettas that were created in a partnership of the superb librettist, Sir William S. Gilbert, and brilliant composer, Sir Arthur Sullivan, and VLOC’s tradition of bringing these evergreen productions alive for its audience. It also celebrates the great American traditions of community and musical theater by inviting members of civic theater companies from around the country to come together to display their musical talent and experience. Those participating can request to sing roles, conduct, or accompany and every best effort is made to honor requests (role request information is forthcoming). Those participating pay a registration fee (fee structure TBA) which covers catered breakfasts and dinners over the course of the weekend. |

On New Year’s Eve, Eisenstein is being forced to go to jail for punching a police officer, however decides to evade jail for one night so that he can go to Prince Orlofsky’s lavish party. His wife Rosalinde gets wind of his scheme, and follows him, in disguise as a Hungarian countess to the ball. Adele, their maid, also feigns an excuse to be released from work that night so that she can also go to the ball, disguised as a Russian actress named Olga. Mistaken identities abound and frivolity ensues.

Robin Oakapple has been living as a farmer for years, working up the courage to ask the beautiful village maiden Rose Maybud for her hand, but he is hiding a secret--he is actually Sir Ruthven, the Baronet of Ruddigore, and has been hiding in disguise while his younger brother Despard assumed the title Why? Because of a curse placed on the family by a witch that states the Baronet of Ruddigore must commit some kind of a crime every single day, or else they will die in terrible agony.
Robin is discovered and must take on the responsibility of committing a crime every day in order to appease the curse--and the ghosts of all his ancestors past, who are none too happy with his attempt to shirk his title. Robin must somehow find a way to lead the honest life he loves--but how? Presented fully staged with full orchestra. |
