Synopsis

Cox and Box, Sullivan’s first comic opera, was first performed in 1866, before his collaboration with W.S. Gilbert.  As the Opera opens, Sergeant Bouncer is getting double the rent for his apartment by leasing to Mr. Cox, who works during the day, and Mr. Box, who works at night. But then Cox’s employer gives him the day off, and the two accidentally meet.
