Do I have to pay when I submit my registration?
Everyone who registers to sing has to submit their registration fee at the time of registration in order to be considered for casting. The only exception to this are conductors and accompanists, who are are comped in exchange for conducting or playing at least one show. Registrations (with payment) for those interested in principle roles are due June 16, 2013. Registration for those only interested in singing with the chorus will remain open until the weekend of the Sing Out.
How is the Sing Out cast? When will I find out if I got the role I wanted?
The Sing Out is cast by a committee of Victorian Lyric Opera Company members, who will do their best to try to cast the roles with registrants' preferences in mind. Everyone who registers will be given at least one role. Casting announcements will be sent out by July 1, 2013. Conductors and Accompanists will also be announced at this time.

So how does this all work?
Arrival: We will be open for registration at 5:30pm on Friday. Come in, pick up your registration packet, which will include a name tag, program, attendee list and some goodies Enjoy a glass of bubbly or beer or soft drink and some nibbles and get to know your fellow G&S fans.
Getting started: Debbie Jacobson has mentioned there is some interest in singing the two extant selections from Thespis - Climbing Over Rocky Mountain and Little Maid of Arcadee.
She has offered to play and we'll have a group sing of both before we get started. Copies of the sheet music will be available for interested parties. The official opening begins with a rousing rendition of Hail Poetry, and then we're off.
Logistics: We will have seated risers on stage for the chorus. Principals will have chairs and music stands at the front of the stage. You are welcome to come and go. If you don't want to sing a show you are welcome to sit in the audience or wander around the building or the park.
Breaks: There will be breaks. Expect a short stretch at the Act break of each show, 10-15 minutes between shows while we reset and on Saturday there will be a lunch break of an hour or so, breaking after Pinafore and starting again at 1:30. We will have an approximate 2 hour break for dinner after Ruddigore, coming back for the lecture at 6:30and Utopia at 7:00.
Rehearsals: There really aren't any. We encourage each cast of principals/conductors/accompanists to get together sometime before they perform, ideally during the show before, to talk through anything that may be tricky, tempos, run some tricky spots. But remember the conductors and accompanists are there to enjoy the event, too. Don't expect a full run though of the show.
Attire: Many attendees will use this as an opportunity to show off their many show t-shirts. T-shirts, Jeans, shorts, skirts, dresses, anything goes. The order of the day is be comfortable. If you want to wear a costume for a show, we'd love it! But it's not necessary.
Utopia, Limited: While VLOC is presenting Utopia, everyone is welcome to join the chorus. We will be doing a semblance of costume. The chorus will be in Hawaiian shirts, tropical print dresses, etc. Feel free to join in or not as you desire. We will have the center section of the risers blocked off for the VLOC chorus and they will need to get on the risers during the second act Drawing Room Music, so be prepared. The stage will also be more crowded as we will be joined by our orchestra. The performance will be preceded by a talk on Utopia, Limited by noted G&S scholar, Peter Kline.
Scores: We encourage participants to bring their own scores, or make a friend at the Sing Out to share with. We will have some scores for some of the shows available for purchase, at the Sing Out. You can also support VLOC by buying scores through our Amazon Affiliate shop.
Lobby: In the lobby we will have snacks and soft drinks available for sale throughout the day as well as free coffee & tea. We will also have our usual array of G&S theme buttons for sale. We have been the grateful recipient of a significant collection of scores & books from the Washington Savoyards in addition to our own supply of select scores which will be available for viewing and purchase.
Souvenir T-Shirts: If you'd like to add to your collection, T-shirts commemorating The 5th Great Gilbert & Sullivan Sing Out can be purchased online in our Cafe Press shop.
