The Pirate King - Baritone - swashbuckling, athletic, sentimental, romantic, shirt open with the wind in his hair, Errol Flynn type
Ruth - Contralto - quirky, “old and gray at 47” yet a sassy sidekick, like Thelma Ritter or Betty Garrett
Sergeant of Police - Bass – lawful and dutiful, and adorably cowardly, think Charlie Chaplin
Samuel - Baritone - simple, the epitome of the right-hand-man to the Pirate King
Edith - Soprano – fun-loving ward of Major-General Stanley
Kate - Mezzo-soprano – fun-loving ward of Major-General Stanley
Isabel – Soprano – fun-loving ward of Major-General Stanley
Chorus of Daughters – Altos and Sopranos – the more vivid and individual each one is, the better, comedic understanding and basic dancing ability required
Chorus of Pirates – Baritones and Tenors – simple, tender-hearted souls, requires basic dancing and comedic understanding
Chorus of Policemen – Bass and Baritones – simple, tender-hearted souls, requires good dancing and comedic understanding

Standard Information for VLOC Auditions
- All roles are open and unpaid.
- All those interested in performing in the chorus for fully-staged productions must audition.
- Please prepare one verse of a song in English and bring sheet music in the appropriate key for the provided accompanist. Please do not audition a cappella. **Please DO NOT prepare audition material from the show**
- You will also be asked to provide ALL of your scheduling conflicts for the rehearsal period.
- If cast, you will be required to pay annual membership dues ($25 for ages 18+, $15 for 17 and under).

- Please DO NOT prepare audition material from the show.
- All roles will be required to dance in performance, both partnering and group numbers. Dance experience is preferred, but not required.
- Principal roles will be asked to perform a cold reading from the script.
- All roles will be asked to speak with English accent. Dialect coach will be provided.
