Opened March 25, 1875 at the Royalty Theatre and ran for 300 performances. Hijinks in a courtroom, as the “bride” sues for breach of promise. Trial is the only one act G&S opera, usually played along with another opera.

The most popular G&S opera, Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner of Titti-Pu must actually execute someone or see his town reduced to the rank of a village. He finds a volunteer in Nanki-Poo, the Mikado’s son, who loves Ko-Ko’s ward, Yum-Yum, but is it a good idea to compass the death of the heir apparent?

Opened march 8, 1896 at the Savoy Theatre and ran for 123 performances. Ludwig, an actor, replaces Rudolph, the Grand Duke of Pfennig Halbpfennig after “killing” Rudolph by drawing an Ace in a statutory duel. By assuming all of Rudolph’s obligations, he soon finds himself with far more wives, and prospective wives than he knows what to do with. The last, and the most underrated, of the G&S operas.

Officially premiered at the Fifth Avenue Theatre in New York City on December 31, 1879, where the show was well received by both audiences and critics. Its London debut was on April 3, 1880, at the Opera Comique, where it ran for a very successful 363 performances, having already been playing successfully for over three months in New York.
