Synopsis
Marco and Giuseppi Palmieri, rock stars among gondoliers, are adored by the young women of Venice, and have finally decided to select two as their brides. Returning from their nuptials, they encounter the mysterious Grand Inquisitor Don Alhambra del Bolero, who tells the astonished couples that one of the new husbands is actually the new King of the far-away isle of Barataria, stolen from his father’s court in babyhood. Unfortunately, the infant was brought up by a drunken gondolier, so no one knows which groom is the King, and which is the old gondolier’s own son. Don Alhambra, no fool, deliberately neglects to tell the newlywed couples that the King (whichever he is) was married in infancy to baby Casilda (daughter of the impoverished Duke of Plaza Toro) whose parents have brought her to Venice to claim her royal husband. The arranged marriage makes the new King a bigamist, and also threatens to destroy the happiness of Casilda and her love, Luis. The enterprising Don Alhambra sends for the only person who knows which young man is which, and everyone takes ship for Barataria, where the rightful King will be identified, and the young couples will learn their fates.
