It's only three days until VLOC's debut of Sousa's The Charlatan at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theater in Rockville!  The cast and crew are pumped to bring this production to life.  Today, we talk a bit with another cast member, Kevin Schellhase as we lead up to opening night this Friday.

What's your role in the show?

I play Jelikoff, a struggling Shakespearean actor who is hired by Demidoff (the Charlatan) as a stage hand in the opening act. Jelikoff is a tragicomic mimic and impressionist who ends up disguised as a woman for most of the show. I'm very excited to show you all this character and hope you'll enjoy the laughs he provides.

When and how did you first get involved with VLOC?
This is my second season with VLOC. I was a member of the titular ensembles for "The Yeoman of the Guard" and "The Pirates of Penzance" earlier this year. I found out about VLOC when my friend Kate Huntress-Reeve, who directed "Yeomen," asked me if I would be interested in stepping in to fill an open spot in that show.

When you're not performing in community theatre, what do you do? (job, hobby, family, etc.)
I work at American University as an administrative assistant. Outside of business hours, I spend a lot of time writing and recording music, doing voiceover acting projects, and teaching piano lessons. I also enjoy biking around DC, visiting family in Gaithersburg, and singing karaoke with friends.

Thanks, Kevin!  Do you have your tickets to The Charlatan yet?  Don't wait any longer!  Call the box office at 240-314-8690 to make sure you don't miss out on this fantastic production.
