This week we are thrilled to bring Amy Broadbent to our Gondoliers cast interview series! Amy has sung with VLOC in the past, but she's taking a different role in The Gondoliers, and we're all excited about it! Learn more about Amy below!

Name
Amy Broadbent

What's your role in The Gondoliers?
Assistant Conductor

What made you decide to get involved with The Gondoliers?
I have enjoyed opportunities to work with VLOC in the past, and wanted to take on a different "role" of musical leadership.

What are you enjoying most about working on The Gondoliers with VLOC?
I have never done The Gondoliers before, so it's been fun learning a new show and seeing it come to life.

What is your dream role/job?
Singing baroque music and contemporary classical music... every day!

What is the first musical/opera/play you ever saw and what effect did it have on you?
The first one I really remember seeing was the Lion King on Broadway as a child - I was completely awestruck.

How do you think 21st Century audiences can benefit from seeing Gilbert & Sullivan performed today?
There is definitely a place in our lives in 2018 for joy and wordplay and wit. These are classic stories that are enjoyable as they are, or updated for modern standards. Modernization is not only done at the level of time and place and with costumes, but also in the characterization that the actors get to play with, which can be very fun.

When you're not performing in community theatre, what do you do? (job, hobby, family, etc.)
I am a Musician 1st Class in the United States Navy Band as a soprano vocalist. I also enjoy cooking and composing my own music.

Thank you, Amy! Keep an eye out for an announcement as to which performance date you can find Amy in the orchestra pit. You can already get your tickets to see The Gondoliers! Call the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre box office at 240-314-8690, or purchase online HERE. Tickets also make a great last-minute holiday gift for the theatre lover in your life!
